Winterfold Tree Services currently provides tree surgery and related services for clients in the Surrey Hills as well as managing the Winterfold Forest. It produces large amounts of waste wood and saw a business opportunity in the rise in demand for firewood. Surrey Hills LEADER was able to fund 40% of the investment needed to purchase a firewood processor. This will benefit the business by increasing production capacity and efficiency. There are also potential earnings from hire of the equipment to other local tree surgeons. The processor will reduce waste and therefore increase the amount of renewable energy available to the local community. A further benefit resulting from good management of the forest is the positive impact on biodiversity of the woodland.
