Outwood Cricket Club

Location: Outwood, Sector: Community

Outwood Cricket Club  was  awarded nearly £10,000 towards the cost of a new kitchen and bar in their new pavilion.  The old structure, 120 years old was badly affected by subsidence and needed to be rebuilt.  The club had raised substantial funds for the build and approached Surrey Hills LEADER grant programme to cover the costs of fitting the kitchen and bar area in the completed new building.  The new facilities will ensure that the Pavilion is well utilised and promoted.  This will give the club a steady income and ensure its long term future.

The Outwood Cricket Club is a long established and well supported community association and has been in existence since 1897.  It has 170 members including a thriving  junior academy.  It is situated on National Trust land in the heart of Outwood village.  The Club aims to promote and provide cricket for the local, rural community.

The club has received tremendous support  for the rebuild of the  existing wooden pavilion.   Surrey Hills LEADER were asked for a grant to help provide a high quality, hygienic, fit for purpose kitchen and bar that will be utilised by club members and others hiring the pavilion. LEADER were able to award £9,960 , the full cost of the kitchen refit but a small proportion of the total cost of the Pavilion. These facilities are essential for the ongoing life of Outwood Cricket Club as it will provide a source of income.  During the cricket season the Pavilion is seen as a social venue for players and their families and there is potential to attract significant revenue through catering and bar services.

Outwood Cricket Club are very proud of their ground and has responded to the challenge of securing significant funds through strong community support.  Their new Pavilion provides facilities of the highest standard which will help secure their financial future.
